19cm Magnolia Plate
This Magnolia plate is painted using the “dami” (painting within outlines) technique with a thick brush that has an extremely thin tip. It requires excellent skill to control brushwork as the amount of paint is adjusted according to the pressure applied to the brush.
Made by the pottery studio Shingama, which was founded in 1919, in Seto, Aichi Prefecture. They are particular about choosing the right soil, glaze, and gosu to create a beautiful color contrast.
The delicate yet lively illustration of Kobushi Magnolia is painted with amazing gradation using “gosu” (cobalt blue glaze) and embellished with gold strokes in the center of the petals. Its soft, sublime expression is instilled with comforting warmth and encompassed the beauty of femininity and gentleness.
